Hidden Histories
The guiding principles to the NQF state that Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures are valued. This has not always been the case in this country; even now our first nation’s people continue to be the subject of much discrimination and injustice.
This year’s reconciliation week theme of “In this together “– is now resonating in ways we could not have foreseen when it was announced last year, but it reminds us whether in a crisis or in reconciliation we are all #InThisTogether. Together we will be brave and dig into Australia’s often overlooked or misrepresented past, to find those aspects that were hidden to us in our schoolings. Using critical theory and the 8 ways of learning to re-examine the knowledges of our past, we will examine:
• Timelines
• Government policy
• The silenced stories
We will challenge stereotyping and bias and find sensitive and respectful ways to negotiate the tensions that may arise, in hope we can walk courageously toward reconciliation with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and find genuine ways to honour the world’s oldest living cultures. #InThisTogether.
