About the Event

Webinar Wednesday - Connection Over Control: Non-Violent Communication as an Approach to De-Escalate

Facilitated by Emily McKenna

When children become escalated, traditional responses often focus on stopping behaviour rather than understanding what is driving it. Educators at this important cross road can escalate with the child, or intentionally choose a different path to de-escalation.

This webinar explores how Nonviolent Communication (NVC) can be used as a practical, relationship-based approach in these critical moments in OSHC settings. Grounded in trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming practice, NVC supports educators to look beyond behaviour and respond to the underlying feelings and needs that highened emotions convay.
