About the Event

Responding to Racism in OSHC

Facilitated by Rarni Rothwell & Lainey Walker

“Racism is commonplace and normalised in Australia and can affect almost every part of a person’s daily life.” (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2024) It is a form of toxic stress for children and adults, that literally “gets 'under the skin' and affects learning, behaviour, and lifelong health.” (Harvard University, 2020)

In OSHC we are not only uniquely positioned to explore social justice and inequality, including challenging stereotyping and bias, but required to do so by the guiding principles of the national quality framework. (ACECQA, 2018)

The Queensland Children’s Activities Network acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia, and recognise their continuing connection to culture, land, waterways and communities. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
