About the Event

Playing with Culture - A child-led approach to cultural inclusion

Facilitated by Lainey Walker

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) sets an international benchmark for children’s rights. The UNCRC encompasses the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children across the world. The UNCRC outlines that all children have the right to participate fully in cultural and artistic life, and should be provided with appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity.

OSHC Educators are strong advocates for children’s right to play and leisure time. However, sometimes “doing” culture within our services can seem at odds with a truly child-led program. This session will challenge this notion, and reimagine our children’s capacity and desire to lead their own cultural learning and play within OSHC.

This session will explore:

  • upholding children’s rights to their cultures, identities and beliefs
