Planning Cycle for Routines and Tranitions

Everyday routines and transitions play a significant role in the lives of children and young people. While these moments can be taken for granted, it is important to reflect on the routines and transitions you currently have in your setting, considering if these can be enhanced, who is advantaged and disadvantaged by these and how children have had involvement in their development.


The inclusion of a planning cycle into MTOP (2.0) acts to scaffold OSHC educators in the important curriculum work and decision making that’s required of them. Often this cycle is used in relation to observing, understanding and planning for “activities”. This cycle can and should be used for every aspect of decision making that takes place in OSHC, all of which have implications for children’s wellbeing, learning and development.
