Intergeneration Opportunities in OSHC - Online Workshop

My fond childhood memories include visits to stay with grandparents for the holidays and living beside neighbours who were elderly. I have come to discover the importance of these relationships with older people as being are critical to the way in which I connect with people, my sense of empathy and my overall sense of wellbeing. These personal experiences have shaped my recent research experiences about intergenerational practice.

In this session I am going to share with you some of the insights from my research about intergenerational practice. I have examined the benefits for children and young people who participate in intergenerational programs. I will provide examples of various models of programs from across Australia. Then I will invite you to share about ways in which you can enrich the lives of children and young people and our older Australians by creating regular opportunities to participate in intergenerational practice as part of everyday practice in school age care services.

We will look to the Australian Institute for Intergenerational Practice whose overall purpose is to re-connect communities through the development, implementation and evaluation of intergenerational programs; with a long-term vision for intergenerational interactions and programs to be a normal part of our everyday life in both formal and informal settings. https://aiip.net.au/
