Regulatory Authority Priority Series: Incident Prevention & Management

Ensuring Your Risk Assessments are Compliant

Facilitated by Emily McKenna

The Queensland Early Childhood Regulatory Authority (ECRA) is responsible for regulating the early childhood education and care sector including outside school hours care. They have a vital role in making sure children are safe and receive high-quality education and care. This series spotlights the priority areas they will be focusing on through to 2025.

This session will focus on Incident prevention and management, more specifically contributing ideas and insight into service risk management processes.

It is the responsibility of everyone working within an education and care service, including approved providers, service leaders & educators to manage risks as part of service delivery. It is expected that services take a systematic approach to identifying and responding to risk. Under the National Law & Regulations, there are risk assessments that are required of every service, it is important that each service is aware of their obligations, not only to ensure compliance, but to protect children from harm or hazard likely to cause injury.

During this session we will:

• Understand the requirement to risk assess under the NQF

• Review the risk management cycle

• Discuss the required risk assessments

• Engage in practical risk assessment activities for sleep & rest / safe arrivals of children

This session is suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages.
