About the Event

"Adequate" Supervision

Facilitated by Emily McKenna

National Law Section 165 references that all children must be “adequately supervised” at all times while they are in the care of education and care services. But what does adequate supervision actually entail? We know that simply adhering to ratios is not necessarily sufficient in ensuring adequate supervision. This is reflected in regulatory data that indicates section 165 was one of the most breached sections of the national law over the last quarter.

Join us during this session as we consider the three factors involved in considering adequate supervision:

  • The Children
  • The Environment
  • The Educators

This requires services to both plan ahead for supervision and respond in the moment, to ensure they are upholding their duty of care and taking reasonable steps to protect children from harm.

This session is suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages.
