Social Emotional Learning Approaches to Behaviour 

How can we support the behaviour of children in OSHC? This session examines how Social Emotional Learning (SEL) approaches can guide educators as they guide children. It focuses on the social and emotional skills critical to effective citizenship using the CASEL model of core competencies including self-awareness, responsible decision making, relationship skills, social awareness and self-management. 

Educators will enhance their own knowledge of SEL, reflect on learning opportunities within the school age setting and identify strategies where SEL can feature more purposefully in their service’s program. We will reflect on a number of ways that we can bring theory to life; making our practice less reactive and more intentional and ultimately creating more enjoyable places to work and play.
