Supporting Behaviour in OSHC
Facilitated by Emily McKenna
Behaviour is a term that is constantly discussed in the context of Outside School Hours Care. In our busy OSHC environments, behaviour can be a source of frustration and confusion.
This training session supports Educators to “make sense” of behaviour in the context of children’s experiences and development and in doing so will support Educators to think and talk about children and their behaviours differently.
Through;
- Understanding children’s diverse needs
- Understanding emotional regulation
- Working with a trauma lens
- Understanding sensory preferences
We can understand what behaviours may be communicating.
Throughout this training we will shift our focus from being reactive to proactive, by taking a child-centred & strengths-based approach. The session will take a broad focus on Quality Area 5“Each child is supported to regulate their own behaviour, respond appropriately to the behaviour of others and communicate effectively to resolve conflicts.”
Educators will be encouraged to examine their own responses and interactions and the role these play in de-escalating and guiding behaviour. This training will provide information on the evidence-based approaches of positive behaviour guidance and restorative justice to create safe and welcoming environments.
