Thinking Deeply About Play and Leisure in OSHC - Webinar Wednesday
Facilitated by Rarni Rothwell
Play… it’s our bread and butter in OSHC - a profession that has long understood the important role play has in children’s holistic wellbeing. Through play, children develop a sense of identity and an understanding of their social and cultural worlds. Yes it can be fun but it’s also really important; so much so that it features in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
But how much time to we spend deeply thinking about play? Are we critically reflecting on opportunities to play in our service? Do we understand the different theoretical perspectives that do or could influence us in this thinking? Do we have the language to advocate for children’s right to play and explain the outcomes brought about though these unique experiences? And where does leisure fit into all this? Or dare we ask – passive leisure? (Thank you Dr Bruce Hurst for this amazing provocation!)
Join us as we ponder the following through an OSHC lens:
- Children’s Right to Play AND Leisure – Article 31 of the UNCRC
- Play & Leisure in MTOP (original and V2.0)
- Critically Reflecting on Play and Leisure Outcomes
- Advocating for Child-directed and Initiated Experiences
- Environments and Resources that Support Genuine Play and Leisure
This session is suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages.
