The Third Teacher - Reconsidering Environments - Webinar Wednesday
Facilitated by Rarni Rothwell
The OSHC environment is more than where a service operates, in fact it is considered the Third Teacher integral to the OSHC experience. MTOP V2.0 reminds us of the many facets of SAC environments including physical, temporal, intellectual, social and emotional. They play a significant role in determining the quality of the service and heavily influence children’s behaviour and wellbeing. But OSHC spaces are frequently chosen for their availability not suitability. Often services and educators lack the funds, flexibility or expertise necessary to make the learning environment appropriate to their needs. Improvements, even cosmetic ones, can seem overwhelming.
The aim of this session is to reframe your OSHC spaces as places. Places of play, leisure, wellbeing, learning and development. Places for belonging, being and becoming. Places that invite participation, engagement and initiative and supports constructive relationships between children and between children and adults. Small changes can make a large difference and low-cost solutions can have a high impact on the atmosphere and effectiveness of the program. Rather than thinking of the program as happening in the environment, the environment is the program, the environment isthe teacher.
This session is suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages.
In response to the changing needs of the OSHC sector we have made the following modifications to our Webinar Wednesdays:
- 30 minute sessions - shorter, sharper content to overcome the time constraints many services are experiencing that limits their engagement with professional development
- New supplementary resources for every session including:
- Training Plan for Educational Leaders with session objectives, regulatory context, pre reading or viewing options, learning activities and additional resources links. This is designed to scaffold Educational Leaders with supporting their educator team in their on the job training, ongoing learning and professional development. It draws connections between session content and pedagogy and practice, and provokes critical reflection on the important role of educational leadership.
- Educator Worksheet with reflections and activities for ‘Putting into Practice’ the session content
- This means that even through the sessions are shorter – you’re not missing out on the important bits
- Cost savings - enjoy educator team (per service) participation for the same fee
- New delivery time - 10:00am to 10:30am EST
