Supporting Sensory Regulation across Vacation Care - Online Workshop

Did you know the way we process our 8 (yes 8!) senses has a direct impact on our emotions, attention and learning? This is why it’s important to understand how the children and young people in our programs process sensory information and what we can do to meet their sensory needs.

This session will support participants to;

• Understand sensory processing and its role in OSHC
• Learn about the 8 sensory systems
• Consider the way the environment influences participation
• Unpack strategies to meet diverse sensory needs.

Vacation Care…. It’s big, it’s busy, it’s noisy, and sometimes it’s dysregulating. Despite its use in day-to-day conversations, regulated doesn’t necessarily mean calm. Instead, it means that your energy levels match the energy needed to actively engage in an activity and environment.

Children squealing and running during capture the flag – that energy is great for that setting.  Children quiet and still while on a movie excursion – that energy is ok for that setting.

This session is suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages.
