Sensory Smart Environments - Webinar Wednesday

Facilitated by Emily McKenna

All children thrive in environments engineered for their specific needs. This is true for all children, but particularly so for neurodivergent children. When we think about how to support sensory needs, we often have ideas of elaborate sensory rooms with specially designed, often expensive equipment. While this can be a fantastic option, we can provide meaningful sensory experiences for each child, through rethinking our environments, seeking to understand needs and reframing our perspective on behaviour.

In this session we will discuss the 3 “ R”s

  1. Recognise: that a sensory need may underlie children’s behaviour, inattention, hyperactivity or impulsivity.

  2. Rechannel: instead of trying to stifle the child’s energy or manage behaviour, find a way to redirect it or help them use it in a purposeful (and meaningful) way.
