About the Event

Sensational OSHC Environments: Understanding Sensory Needs

Facilitated by Emily McKenna

All of us use our eight sensory systems (yes that’s right, 8 NOT 5), daily to deliver information to our brain. The organisation and response to this information is automatic and usually occurs without effort. We all have sensory preferences and needs. Some of us are more sensitive or less sensitive to particular input. These preferences shape how we feel, how we respond, how we learn, what we enjoy and what bothers us. It is vital that OSHC Educators understand how to ignite and calm the senses in both themselves and in children, to create opportunities for children to engage in their environment through meaningful, sensory exploration. Understanding the Senses is essential… it just makes sense!
