Problem Solving Using the Cycle of Planning

The inclusion of a planning cycle into MTOP (2.0) acts to scaffold OSHC educators in the important curriculum work and decision making that’s required of them. Often this cycle is used in relation to observing, understanding and planning for “activities”. This cycle can and should be used for every aspect of decision making that takes place in OSHC, all of which have implications for children’s wellbeing, learning and development.


A culture of professional enquiry is rooted in asking powerful questions and collaboratively constructing a shared meaning and understanding of the topic addressed. The planning cycle can be used as a framework to ask questions and problem solve with stakeholders.


This session will discuss how to use the five phases to create a framework for problem solving and quality improvement:
