Cultural competence, awareness, acceptance, safety, responsiveness…. why are there so many concepts, and what are the differences? In this session we will explore the nuances between the varying cultural concepts and frameworks, and the growing shift from cultural competence to safety.
The session explores:
· Cultural competence vs cultural safety & responsiveness
· The gap between cultural safety and physical safety
· The importance of identity and the limitations of “colour-blindness”
· Cultural safety for all OSHC stakeholders:
o educators
o children
o families
o communities
