Introduction to Sensory Processing
Facilitated by Emily McKenna
Have you ever heard the term sensory processing but weren’t sure what it meant? Or how it applied to your role as an educator? All of us have our own unique response to the world around us. Sensory processing is our brain’s ability to use our senses to make connections and respond to what is happening to us, around us and even within us. These responses might affect our participation in daily activities and how we are able to engage and interact with others. OSHC services are busy settings and without consideration or adjustments can become overwhelming for children with differences in sensory processing.
This session will cover:
- What is sensory processing?
- How does sensory processing impact children’s participation at OSHC?
- What can OSHC educators think about to create more inclusive environments?
This session is suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages.
