Focus on Practice Series: Environments
Facilitated by Rarni Rothwell
School age care environments are welcoming spaces when they reflect and enrich the lives and identities of children, families and educators participating in the setting in response to their interests and needs. Environments that support wellbeing and development are vibrant and flexible spaces that are responsive to the welfare and abilities of each child. They cater for different needs and interests and invite children and families to contribute ideas and questions.
This webinar is part of our focus on practice series – allowing educators to reflect on important aspects of their pedagogical practice, as articulated in MTOP. It will support educators to consider why environments are so important and how they can capitalise on every opportunity they present. Educators will be provoked to think about:
• How a range of theories can impact how educators reflect on the environment and it’s role in learning in OSHC -
• Developmental theory
• Socio-cultural theory
• Playwork theory
• Nature pedagogy
• Indigenous pedagogy
• How the environment contributes to belonging
• The role the environment has in the program
