Focus on Practice series: Continuity and Transitions

School age care settings are situated in complementary relationships with homes, schools and community spaces with different places and environments having their own purposes, expectations, and ways of doing things. Educators work with children, families, other professionals, and the broader community to ensure successful transitions between these settings and that children feel secure and confident. Ensuring children have an active role in preparing for transitions helps them to feel motivated to contribute and become engaged with the activities within settings.

This webinar is part of our focus on practice series – allowing educators to reflect on important aspects of their pedagogical practice, as articulated in MTOP. It will support educators to consider why transitions are so important and how they can embed necessary processes into their daily work to ensure continuity of learning. Educators will have an opportunity to increase their understanding of:

· The different types of transitions SAC children experience including rights of passage

· The importance of the routine

· The importance of individual timeframes

· Ways to ensure continuity
