About the Event

Demystifying Theory in OSHC  - Webinar Wednesday

Facilitated by Rrni Rothwell

Typically, OSHC programs   in Australia are shaped by educators who are informed by a range of theories that   influence their everyday work with children, families and each other. The   revised Framework for School Age Care - MTOP V2.0 identifies that the work of   educators may be enhanced by intentionally drawing   on several perspectives. This session will examine each of these and give   examples of how they inform best practice in OSHC in Australia. The theories   covered will include:

  • socio-cultural   theories and ecological theories
  • developmental   theories
  • practice
  • ancestral   knowledges as ways of knowing and understanding
  • place-based   sciences
  • critical theories
  • post-structuralist,   post-colonial and feminist theories

“Theories are a tool to help us develop our   understanding. By being conscious of the theories they are drawing on to   inform their work, educational leaders and educators can recognise their   strengths and limitations, and seek alternative ways of understanding when   needed.” ACECQA (2019:88)

This session is suited to OSHC professionals   at all career stages.

In response to the changing needs of the OSHC sector we have made the following modifications to our Webinar Wednesdays:

  • 30 minute sessions - shorter, sharper content to overcome the time constraints many services are experiencing that limits their engagement with professional development
  • New supplementary resources for every session including:
    • Training  Plan for Educational Leaders with session objectives, regulatory context, pre reading or viewing options, learning activities and additional resources links. This is designed to scaffold Educational Leaders with supporting their educator team in their on the job training, ongoing learning and professional development. It draws connections between session content and pedagogy and practice, and provokes critical reflection on the important role of educational leadership.
    • Educator Worksheet with reflections and activities for ‘Putting into Practice’ the session content
    • This means that even through the sessions are shorter – you’re not missing out on the important bits

  • Cost savings - enjoy educator team (per service) participation for the same fee
  • New delivery time - 10:00am to 10:30am EST
