About the Event

Creating Engaging Learning Environments in OSHC

Facilitated by Rarni Rothwell

The OSHC environment is more than where a service operates. It plays a significant role in determining the quality of the service and the children’s behaviour. Space is frequently chosen for its availability not its suitability. Often services and educators lack the funds, flexibility or expertise necessary to make the environment appropriate to their needs. Physical improvements, even cosmetic ones can seem overwhelming.

The aim of this session is to reframe your spaces as learning environments. Environments that invite participation, engagement and initiative and supports constructive relationships between children and between children and adults. Small changes can make a large difference and low-cost solutions can have a high impact on the atmosphere and effectiveness of the program. Rather than thinking of the program as happening in the environment, the learning environment is the program.

This session is suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages.
