Anti-Bias Practice in OSHC

Bias shows up in the smallest moments- and often when we least expect it. References to the “skin-colour” crayon. Praise like, “He was so brave after he skinned his knee! He didn’t even cry!”. These everyday interactions might seem harmless, yet they can reinforce stereotypes and shape how children see themselves and others.


 The Approved Learning Framework for School Age Care calls on us to champion equity, inclusion and high expectations for every child and young person. But even with the best intentions, implicit and structural biases can quietly influence our decisions, practices and service culture.


 This workshop invites you to look more closely at how bias operates in OSHC- and what we can do about it.


In this session, we will explore:
