About the Event

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Competence in OSHC - Webinar Wednesday

Facilitated by Lainey Walker

Educators who are culturally competent respect multiple cultural ways of knowing, seeing and living, celebrate the benefits of diversity and have an ability to understand and honour differences.

Drawing upon her Aboriginal heritage, Lainey explores what it means to be a culturally competent educator in Outside School Hours Care alongside the importance of promoting culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders.

This session will explore:

  • Frameworks for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competence in OSHC
  • Instilling appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and perspectives
  • How the service environment communicates cultural safety to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders
  • The essential role of critical reflection in cultural competence
