About the Event

Using a Neuroscience Lens to Understand Behaviour - Online Workshop

Facilitated by Emily McKenna

Having an understanding of how children’s brains develop and respond to stress can equip us with the knowledge required to realistically and confidently support children to navigate challenging moments. When we consider children’s behaviours through the lens of neuroscience, we move away from viewing behaviour as a 'choice' and instead understand behaviour in the context of the various structures and functions within the brain.

This session will cover:

  • Brain development in early childhood
  • Trauma, toxic stress and brain development
  • Sensory processing and behavioural responses
  • Developing strategies to support regulation, relation and reasoning

Whilst neuroscience can seem complex or overwhelming, MTOP V2.0 prompts us to use this contemporary lens and grow our understanding to inform how our own behaviours and thoughts can best support children to feel safe, regulate, reason and learn.

It is   suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages.
