About the Event

Regulatory Authority Priority Series –  Supporting Educational Leaders to Understand and Advocate for Children's Rights in OSHC

The Queensland Early Childhood Regulatory Authority (ECRA) is responsible for regulating the early childhood education and care sector including outside school hours care. They have a vital role in making sure children are safe and receive high-quality education and care. This series spotlights the new priority areas they announced in late 2023.

This session will focus on Support for educational leadership.

The educational leader of a service plays a significant role in guiding and developing educators’ and families’ understandings about play and leisure-based learning, and the significance of the early years in the education continuum for children.

We have all heard “children’s rights are human rights”. But what exactly does this mean for educators in OSHC?

In this session we unpack the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We will ponder:

  • Why are children’s rights important in the ECEC context?
  • How is Australia fairing on children’s rights?
  • What are the big 12 and how can we progress them in OSHC?

Join us as we support educational leaders to support educators to authentically critically reflect on their practice and how it assets and ensures children’s rights.

This session is suited to OSHC professionals at all career stages but will have a special focus on how to support educational leaders in their work with OSHC stakeholders.
